A Pastoral Limerick

 

There once was a preacher named Tim,

“Oh, call him Pastor,” said Susie to them.

On napkins he wrote, from IPADS he spoke

Piano keys, his friends; the ivories no joke

Composing songs of worship and praises and hymns.

 

No celebration is complete without a poem. Written for 2-4-24; Pastor Appreciation Sunday. College Park Church of God.

Independence Day, 2017; the Movie, but Something Else to Think About

  It's raining in Huntsville, Al and E! is running "Independence Day" all day. I love two things about this  movie, well, 3. First, the nations of the earth work together to destroy the "alien" forces; 2nd we win,  but 3rdly--the "President" addresses the troops and part of his words say--"We will not go quietly  into the night." And that's how we should still be!  JFK said, "Let every nation know, whether it wishes  us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend,  oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty." We should continue to stand for  freedom in the face of those who oppose us. We can't stand idly by and let the foundations of our country crumble before our eyes. As the saying goes "evil prevails when good men do nothing." Let us continue to strong, stalwart in our belief system, and honor those who have paid the price with blood to l...

Why Blogs May Not Appeal to Readers at First

I can see why people are hesitant to start a blog , especially when they don't use google as their search engine. I have mine written down so you and I both can refer to it. Mine is plain vanilla and I have worked at adding  visual things that make it more appealing. At the same time, I don't want it to be busy with superfluous things. If writing is the heart, then I want it to stand out. I plan to keep it as a reservoir for writings, both mine and some student work I have saved on my hard drive because they had a writer's heart. The first article was written and posted on Facebook. I got so many responses to it, that, as suggested, I edited it somewhat and submitted it to Texas Monthly . We shall see if they accept it or not. The reunion was hard on me emotionally. I did not expect it to be, hence the writing that came from it.
